My mother's father was an ethnic German who lived in Russia until he, (when he was 12 years old), and his family came to the United States in the early 20th century. During the 18th century, large numbers of Germans emigrated to Russia following the ascension of a German princess to the Russian throne, who took the name as Catherine the Great. Many of the so-called "Germans from Russia" settled in Nebraska, where my parents were born and raised. The Runza is a traditional Germans from Russia food, and remains very popular to the present day.
